Propecia is a drug used for treating male pattern hair loss – you can find out how it works here:
What is it?
Propecia is a drug used to treat male pattern hair loss. It contains an active ingredient called Finasteride, which helps reduce the amount of DHT your body produces (more about DHT below).
Finasteride was first introduced as a medicine for prostate treatment, but also became available as a hair loss medication for men after it was found to help with this. (It is not suitable for women, as it can have an effect on male fetuses). As a hair loss treatment, it is used by men across different ages.
So, How Does It Work?
First of all, DHT causes a decrease in the growth phase and thinning of the hair. As a result of this happening, male pattern hair loss can be caused. Propecia works by reducing the amount of DHT being produced in the body.
Propecia lowers the levels of DHT in the scalp. Therefore, this helps to reverse the balding process, leading to an increase in hair growth and prevention of further hair loss.
How’s It Taken?
Propecia is often used alongside Minoxidil, which is another hair loss treatment. Also, it can be taken on its own. It can take time for the effects of Propecia to be seen and you may be on the drug for a long time.
